Fund Raising
for the Hermitage of the Flying Yoginis
(a) Hermitage of the Flying Yoginis
UPDATE: Recently the government
cleared the paperwork on the land for the Hermitage of the Flying
Yoginis. It is a wonderful
space, approx 100 by 100 meters, on a hiltop overlooking the valley
above Bayangol.
My first fundraising project is dedicated to the
rebuilding of Baldan Khajid Ling, the “Hermitage of the Glorious Flying Yoginis,” a
community of approximately thirty female practitioners based
in Ulanbataar. A philanthropist friend in California has offered
to
match dollar-for-dollar
any money raised. We will begin with an urban community-service
orientated facility in Northern Ulanbataar, facing the sacred Bogh
Mountain.
After this is completed, we will look to building a mountain
retreat facility.
Also,
I will be leading a group of Dharma friends to Mongolia in late August,
and any monies raised by the tour will be dedicated to this project.
The first ten days of this pilgrimage will be dedicated to meditation
in Mongolia’s traditional power sites, and then after this
we will spend our remaining time working on building the hermitage.
An Apache lady friend who is well trained in Adobe building techniques
will join us, to oversee the work.

(b) An English Language Buddhist Library
Because Mongolia was under Russian domination for
the past 75 years, many Mongol youths were educated in Western universities
in places like Russia, Ukraine, East Germany, Hungary, and so forth.
As a result, they are closer in intellectual and emotional predisposition
to Europeans than they are to, say, Chinese or Tibetans.
As a result, it is easier for them to study Buddhism in a Western form of presentation
than it is in Old Mongolian or Tibetan. For this reason I have been asked to
initiate a project for building a library of Buddhist literature. Mr Batbold
Baast has kindly agreed to assist with this project.
The best way to help here is to mail Buddhist books directly to Mongolia. The
address is as follows: Mongolian International Buddhist Library, Box 613, Ulanbataar
49, Mongolia
