Project 9: A Windmill Power Generator for the Nuns of Baldan Khajod Ling (Project approved by the Canada Fund, and money transferred to the Balden Khajod Ling account)
|
Electricity is not universally available in Mongolia. The country is very large in land mass, but sparsely populated. Of course it is available in all cities and towns, but large areas of the countryside are off of the grid.
Baldan Khajod Ling had recently acquired a piece of land in the Byangol district to the northwest of Ulaanbaatar. This was the good news. The challenge was that it was off the power grid.
Glenn approached Mr. Todd Smith at the Canada Fund in Mongolia with the prospect of acquiring a grant to install a wind and solar power generator and accumulator for the hermitage. Todd graciously accepted the application for board consideration.
The grant application was accepted in September of 2006, and roughly $11,000 US was transferred from the Canada Fund to Baldan Khajod Ling that same month.
